* Switch to Node tool, it can select paths without ungroping, handy sometimes. Layer/Add layer, and give it some meaningful name like Size L. * After you have all you need, don't be me and create a size layer first. * Group shapes together each time you are sure they are aligned Same for cutting lines though you might choose to omit those you aren't going to use It's not strictly necessary, it's easy enough to mark folds in Inkscape but if there are notches it's wise to include them. * In the video I import pages for bands and then get additional page for labels. Usually less with big adult patterns and more with small multi-pieces children patterns * Unless you are lucky and can get two or more pattern pieces on one page, you'd need at least one page per pattern piece. After you finished, select both shapes and group them together
* I zoom in and see if it got snapped correctly. Inkscape would try to snap but might snap wrong things There would be some alignment points for you to use, designer's markers or cut lines or whatnot. * Ungroup several times and then group this page too.

* Choose the same file and with PDF import window, you can press Tab to get to the page number field, Tab to unfocus it and Alt O to press OK You can continue to drag&drop if you prefer So I hold Alt, press F for File and inside it I for Import, and dialog opens. Inside the menu items would have those letters too. While holding Alt, press that letter for the menu to open (sometimes twice). * This time I show easier (for me) way to use menus: press Alt and the first letters become underscored. In my case one of cutting lines was missing, so I returned to the PDF viewer to look for the page I need. * Look at the result and see if any lines are missing for your size. Inkscape would handle them all as one object now, but additional lines would stay * After lines are there you can stop ungrouping and actually group all that Object/Group. Use one of direct assembly instructions instead * If after 5-7 ungroups no new lines appeared, this hack won't work for this pattern (and probably the designer). Repeat that 3-5 times until you see additional lines appearing around the original page With it selected, go to Object/Ungroup, or press Shift Ctrl G. Press Tab or click away from that fild for preview to update. * In the text field type your page number, 11 for me.
Note the page number in the document, in my case 11 * you'd want the 1st page with control square. * decide on the the size (sizes) you need * open the pattern in your PDF viewer, look for print layout if there is one Want to say thanks? Here's how: ? or join my Patreon: ? People dubbed this method 'Inkscape hack'. But it works for many and when it does work it's much faster. It doesn't work for all designers and depends on the way they make their files. Get the whole pattern piece out of one pattern page and save time assembling patterns for projector sewing. I use free Evie Shorties by Violette Field Threads and Inkscape, a free vector editor for Linux, Windows and Mac. If not, there is not much of a benefit use vector editors for 'lots of tiny paths' lines anyway. If you needed that solid line size you are in luck. It also might work for some sizes but not the other because with some patterns solid lines are whole and dashed lines are made of lots of tiny paths. It may work partially, lines won't form whole piece. It might not work at all, no new lines would appear, and then you'd need to assemble it still. If it works, pattern lines are extended beyond the page boundaries and you might get a whole pattern piece.
With imported object selected, Object/Ungroup or Ctrl Shift G, repeat three or more times. It's pretty simple: import or open PDF to Inkscape, select one of the pages with the size lines you need. With this method you can only import one or two pages per pattern piece. You can assemble patterns in Inkscape the usual way too but it's tedious, Inkscape only opens one page at a time.

But it's a vector object so it keeps the information about full shape inside.

It's based on the fact that pattern is drafted full size and then often cropped for each A4/letter page. Inkscape tutorial, get whole sewing pattern piece from one of A4 pages in the pattern file.
